We may use several common tracking tools to collect information. Tracking tools include browser cookies, web beacons, and pixels. To learn more about cookies visit the FTC's Online Tracking page. We may do this on our websites and in emails that we send to you. To learn more about these technologies and your choices, read more below.

We collect information about you from others. We may collect information about you from our business partners or other third party sources, such as social media sites, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

3. How We Use Personal Information

We collect and use your Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • To provide, analyze, and maintain our Services.
  • To improve and develop our Services and conduct research.
  • To communicate with you, including to send you information about our Services and events.
  • To prevent fraud, illegal activity, or misuses of our Services, and to protect the security of our systems and Services.

3A. Google User Data

If you connect a Google account to Almanac, we access only the data needed for the features you enable:

  • Sign in with Google: your name, email address, and profile picture, used to create your account and sign you in.
  • Google Calendar (calendar.events, calendar.calendarlist.readonly, calendar.freebusy): your list of calendars, your free/busy availability, and read and write access to your events, used to show your schedule, find free time, and create, update, or respond to events at your request.
  • Gmail (gmail.readonly, gmail.compose): read access to your messages and the ability to create drafts and send messages you approve, used to find, summarize, and draft email at your request.

Almanac's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine learning models. Humans do not read Google user data except with your consent, for security purposes, or to comply with law. The research and service-improvement uses described in Section 3 do not apply to Google user data.

You can disconnect Google at any time in Almanac settings or at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Prohibited uses. Almanac does not generate images of people and does not use Google APIs or Google user data to create, modify, or distribute sexually explicit or intimate imagery, including AI-generated non-consensual intimate imagery.

4. Cookies and Other Data Collection Technologies

When you access our Services, we (and third-party companies we work with) may collect and store certain information by using technologies such as server logs, cookies, web beacons, clear gifs, tags, e-tags, flash cookies, log files, code, Javascript packages, and similar technologies. These various technologies help us manage the operations of the Services, remember your preferences, and track usage behavior so that we can tailor information to make your visits more enjoyable and meaningful.

Our data collection technologies include:

  • Cookies: A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a webpage server. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. You can find more information about cookies at www.allaboutcookies.org.
  • Web beacons and GIFs: Certain pages on the Services contain web beacons (also known as web bugs, pixel tags and clear GIFs), which we use to monitor how users use the Services.
  • Local Storage and Local Shared Objects: We use local shared objects and local storage to enhance user experience. Local storage is similar to browser cookies but can store data more complex than simple text. By itself, local storage cannot do anything to or with the data stored on your device. Like cookies, local storage can only access personal data that you have provided to the Services. Various browsers may offer their own management tools for removing HTML5.

You may have the ability to accept or decline cookies and manage your local storage through your web browser. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you may be able to modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to experience certain features of the Services.

Some web browsers incorporate a "do-not-track" ("DNT") or similar feature that signals to websites that a visitor does not want to have his/her online activity tracked. If a website receives a DNT signal, the browser can block that website from collecting certain information about the browser's user. Not all browsers offer a DNT option and DNT signals are not yet uniform. For this reason, we (along with many other website operators) do not currently respond to DNT signals. For more information about DNT signals, visit www.allaboutdnt.com.
