Voice and dictation

Dictate a prompt, speak with Almanac, or record a patient encounter.

Dictate a prompt

Select the microphone in the composer, or press Control-Shift-D, then speak. Your words appear as editable text in the composer. Review or edit them before sending.

Dictation is useful for longer prompts, spoken histories, or composing while your hands are occupied.

Start a spoken conversation

Press Control-Shift-V to begin a spoken conversation. Almanac listens and responds aloud. Its words are highlighted as it speaks so you can follow the response on screen.

Record a visit

Type /visit to record an encounter and create a running transcript in the background. See Visit recording.

Improve speech recognition

Go to Settings > Voice to adjust:

  • Spoken language: Choose the language used for dictation, spoken conversations, and visit recording.
  • Recognized words and phrases: Add drug names, device names, local abbreviations, surnames, and other terms Almanac should recognize.

Enter each term with the capitalization you want Almanac to use.

Choose how Almanac sounds

In Settings > Voice, adjust:

  • Speaker: Choose the voice.
  • Accent: Choose how the voice sounds.
  • Pace: Make the voice faster or slower.
  • Expressivity: Choose how much variation the voice uses. Lower settings sound more consistent, while higher settings sound more expressive.
