Personalize responses

Tell Almanac about you

In Settings > Personalization, enter what Almanac should call you and choose your medical specialty and subspecialty. Almanac uses your specialty to adjust its terminology, level of clinical detail, and explanations.

Add custom instructions

Use custom instructions for preferences you want Almanac to follow across conversations, such as your clinical setting or how you prefer answers to be written.

I'm a hospitalist at a community hospital. Default to an inpatient context. Give adult doses for normal renal function unless I say otherwise, and flag medications that require renal adjustment. Keep answers short and place the reasoning after the conclusion.

Keep custom instructions short and specific. Put instructions that apply only to the current task in your prompt. See Prompting.

Carry context forward with memory

Memory lets Almanac carry useful information from one conversation to another, so you don't need to repeat your setting and preferences each time.

Almanac has two types of memory. You can control each one separately in Settings > Personalization.

Personal memory

Turn on Enable memory to let Almanac remember durable information about you and how you work, such as your clinical setting, preferred units, or how you like answers presented. Almanac saves information that appears useful for future conversations rather than every passing detail.

You can also tell Almanac what to remember or forget.

Remember that I prefer medication comparisons in a table.

Patient memory

Patient memory belongs to an individual patient. When a conversation is connected to a patient, information remembered from that conversation stays with the patient and isn't used in unrelated conversations.

Patient memory has its own control because it may contain clinical information about a specific person. You can keep personal memory on while leaving patient memory off. See Patients and Privacy and your data.

Review or delete memories

Select Manage memories in Settings > Personalization to see everything Almanac has remembered. You can also open Memory in the side panel without leaving the current conversation.

To remove a memory, select it, then delete it. You can also ask Almanac to forget it.

Search past conversations

Search and reference conversations is separate from memory. When it's on, Almanac can find relevant information in your conversation history, letting you refer to earlier work without locating the conversation yourself.

Last month we worked through a protocol for perioperative anticoagulation. Find what we concluded and apply it to this patient.

When conversation search is off, Almanac uses only the current conversation and any enabled memories.

Turn memory off

You can turn off personal memory, patient memory, and conversation search independently. Almanac continues to use the context in the current conversation, while new conversations begin without information carried over from previous ones.

If you prefer to set persistent preferences yourself, add them to Custom Instructions. Custom instructions remain visible in one place and apply to every conversation until you change them.

Choose how Almanac looks and sounds

Set the appearance

In Settings > Appearance, choose a color scheme, accent color, and text size. Choose True Black to use pure black in place of dark gray. Revisions View controls the colors Almanac uses to show changes made to a file.

Choose a voice

In Settings > Voice, choose a voice and adjust its accent, pace, and expressiveness. You can also set the language and specialist vocabulary Almanac uses for dictation. See Voice.

Choose when to be notified

In Settings > General, choose whether Almanac notifies you when a response is ready, when it needs your input, or when approval is required. For each notification, you can choose Off, Always, or When Almanac isn't in focus.

Your browser or device may ask for permission before Almanac can send notifications.

Review your personalization

Open Settings at any time to change your instructions, memories, appearance, voice, or notifications. When you turn off a context feature, Almanac stops using it in new conversations.
